Creativity and clear expression go hand in hand at Scribble Press. Our classes offer students the chance to develop their writing skills in a setting that delicately balances great grammar with infectious laughter, riotous adventures with careful detail, scintillating stories with an understanding of organization. Building vocabulary, grammar, and an ability to express ideas clearly are stones in a mountain best built over time. Our classes progressively give children the foundation they need to reach the top. Each semester culminates in the creation of a bound book that children write and illustrate themselves.

“The Case of the Missing Miss Terious"
Grade Range: 1 - 6
Students will have a blast learning critical thinking and writing skills as they delve into the inner workings of the mystery story. Provided with age-appropriate reading lists, students will learn about the various elements that make their favorite stories work. Watch their imaginations and vocabulary grow as they embark on their own mystery writing adventure. Students will finish the semester with their own book to take home and share.

Comic Conundrums -- Volume One
Grade Range: 2 - 6
Not all comic books have heroes and villains. Sometimes the hero is his own worst enemy.  Discussing some of their favorite stories, students will get a taste of the first of the many archetypes in storytelling -- Man versus Himself. Students will map out the basic structure of a story while also learning the art of dialogue. This class will be a great way to tackle some of the trickier punctuation problems that come with quotation marks. With fun twists on the typical good guy/bad guy saga, everyone will get to create colorful collections of adventures for their favorite characters. Student work will be published in a class collection for everyone to share with friends and family.

Scribble Selection Book Club
Grade Range: 3 - 6
Do you love reading as much as we do? Come to Scribble Press on Sunday and talk about our book of the month. Selections will be posted the month before on our website.  In addition to practicing their public speaking, participants will be writing book reviews as well as letters to the author. A great way to share books among friends!

Yearbook of ME
Grade Range: 3 - 6
Join us in this workshop as we assemble our very own memory books for the school year. Every month, students will be writing journal-like entries about the goings on in their lives to accompany any photographs, A+ papers, ticket stubs, or other memorabilia they bring in. Students will share their adventures together as they work to complete their own illustrated journals. An amazing way to develop descriptive writing skills! The year will culminate in the creation of a bound book that participants can take home to share.
